Solar Panels - A Societal Issue

 

You are to use this interactive URL to assist your journey as you are entering the new workforce and have created a new company.  This company needs your input, interpretation and analysis of the costs, effects and social issues that are produced by the use of solar panels.  The resources on earth have drastically changed over the past 50 years and eventually resources will run out.  Your company is an "outside the box" thinking company and it is up to you to inspire the world with your new ideas and concepts.

  • As a group you must choose two cartoons found on the home page in "Deep Thought" category, analyze them and report your findings on your sheet.  

  • What does the group feel about how they depict solar energy?

  • What do they imply about solar panels?

  • Who are these cartoons directed at?

  • From these cartoons what do you feel about the use of Solar panels?

  • Watch the music video under the Home page.

  • Turn to the Task Page, here are resources you can use to find information about the energy systems that we as a society are using.  

  • Find one pro and con for each method of energy

  • Look at the regulations that are in place for the all systems.  Do you notice anything about the regulation for solar energy? 

Follow the step by step process below to gather information and make informed decisions on the societal impact of solar panels.  This is to be handed in for marks after Unit C Test. Please see the ruberic that is found under "evaluation" heading.

  • How do solar panels help in today's society?

  • Are there ways to help inform society about solar panels? or ways to improve them?

  • Who are those in power that are deciding the impact of the money going into the projects?

  • Using all the information that you have collected as a group write up a report for your company on all that you know about solar panels (Listing pros and cons of solar panels) .  Include all aspects of solar panels, including factual information that you have found.

  •  Use the sites provided to back up your ideas, and relate all inormation in a clear paragraph form.  

  • The length of the report should be maximum 2 pages.
